Unfounded does not mean False.
Unfounded means that the police did not find enough evidence to prosecute.
That’s it.
It doesn’t mean anyone lied.
It doesn’t mean the accused didn’t do it.
Nor does it mean the accused did do it.
It just means there is neither the evidence to clear nor prosecute the accused.
That is ALL “Unfounded” means.
That’s it.
Seriously. Get it through your heads. “Unfounded” does not equal “Innocent.”
A demonstrably false accusation should result in a false accuser being prosecuted under that jurisdiction’s “wrongful accusation” laws and the complete dropping of all charges.
An unfounded rape charge, in particular, just means that they do not have the evidence they need to charge the accused. And even with AMAZING amounts of evidence, rape is really difficult to successfully prosecute.

I wasn’t in on the conversation, but unfounded doesn’t mean true either.
I would hate to see someone crucified on an accusation without due process. The consequences of being branded a sex-offender are pretty intense. Just because the actual crime is foul doesn’t mean every suspect should be lynched.

By definition, unfounded = without foundation.
In alleged rape cases, child or adult, it oftentimes refers to a source misattribution, meaning rape did not occur at all and it’s an alternative hypothesis or it did occur but mistake in identity whereby you have the wrong suspect under the legal microscope.

But basically, she was angry that — she thought he could not be a fit father for their daughter, and she wanted to be the primary custodian of the child.
GRACE: Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. Mr. Tong — with us, Dean Tong, he is a forensic trial consultant — what do you mean? You can`t go into court and say, He`s not a fit daddy? Why is he not a fit father? What exactly are her allegations?
TONG: It was mainly, `He said, she said,” Nancy. And you know, it was basically going to boil down to be a battle of the experts. Unfortunately, the last six months, I became incommunicado with the defense team, so I`m not privy to what the final things were done by his defense team.

Thank you for this – I actually didn’t know that’s what it meant; I think we hear it enough from people who want us to think it means “didn’t happen”, that that’s how I thought it was mostly used!
